The fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera, Noctuidae) (FAW), is one of the highly invasive noctuid insect pests which cause huge agricultural production and economic loss every year. Here, we assembled a chromosome-level genome of a female moth collected from Zhejiang Province, China, with the length of scaffold N50 more than 16 Mb, which is the best FAW genome available now. Furthermore, we assembled a portion of W chromosome, it is the only version of FAW genome containing the W chromosome.
